The 18 week Living Free Program has been designed around the experiences clients have as they seek to re-integrate back into society and live a life free of addiction and without the crime related lifestyles attached to this.
The design of The Living Free Program attempts to offer intensive (3 pre-determined touch points per week) support through the initial Phase 1 (6 weeks) and then a step-down approach to Phase 2 and 3.
An initial Assessment is conducted whilst the client is still incarcerated. This is usually initiated and paid for through the clients legal representatives or their families. The comprehensive AOD (Alcohol and other Drug) Assessment is conducted with client via zoom to assess willingness and suitability for the program.
If client is deemed a suitable match, a comprehensive report will be written and sent to the legal representatives for forwarding onto the appropriate parties in preparation for bail application.
If client is deemed unsuitable, legal representatives will be notified immediately to allow for alternative arrangements to be made.
On the day of the bail application, a with freedOM coaching coach will attend the court case as a witness on behalf of the client and answers all relevant questions asked by the lawyers and/or magistrate and/or judge.
If bail application is successful, client or legal representative will make contact with their with freedOM coaching representative 24 hours of release from prison. Legal representatives forward a copy of the bail conditions and contact details of the relevant informant.
Begins at the earliest possible date after client is released on bail. It is recognised that the initial few days and weeks after incarceration can be the most challenging for clients. This is often when a client feels high levels of anxiety as they begin to interact with their family and wider society again. This can especially be the case if the client has spent many months incarcerated and away from family and loved ones. It is also the time where relapse is most prevalent, and the risk of over-dose is the highest.
Dependant on the day of the week that client is released they will either begin the program with a one-on-one counselling/coaching session or they will be sent a link for the weekly group zoom call.
Held on a Monday at 5.30pm each week. It is a group call and is a space for clients to share any issues they might have experienced during the weekend and an opportunity to stay accountable to themselves and their program.
Will be held each Wednesday afternoon from 4pm – 5.00pm. This is space for a facilitated group workshop around the key components of recovering from addiction.
Topics of these classes are included in the Living Free Workbook and include: Triggers, Cravings and Relapse; Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome; Grief; Relationships; Cross Addictions; Communication; Denial; Boundaries; Anger; Stress, Anxiety and Depression; Goal Setting.
Each of the clients will be at different stages of the program and therefore are able to offer and share their successes and experiences with others within the group.
Commences as soon as possible for client once they are released on bail. These sessions are scheduled in advance and at the same time each week to create consistency. All sessions will be held at consulting room in North Melbourne or via zoom.
Clients will be issued with their 60+ page Living Free Workbook at the first session with a view that throughout the 18 weeks they will cover all the topics at least once in alignment with their counselling/coaching.
At any time, an “instant urine drug screen” can be requested and done at face-to-face sessions results supplied to the informant.
