I Paula Carroll have the privilege of referring this reference regarding my personal and professional experience associating with Maria Hutchinson.
I have known Maria for five years. I was introduced to Maria through The Cottage (Supported accommodation facility) in Shepparton Victoria. I was a volunteer Support worker and I often observed Maria working with our residents in group sessions. I was in awe of her insight, intuition and knowledge while connecting with mostly prison inmates bailed to our facility. Maria has a wonderful presence and a natural ability about her which encouraged other’s to feel at ease with her and therefore open up.
At times while I was on overnight duty I required Maria’s professional assistance in order to defuse a volatile situation involving residents, without hesitation, Maria would attend and as expected she would instill order. Maria was and still is well respected by previous residents and staff.
On a personal note. I experienced a trauma whilst on duty and it was suggested that I may benefit with some counselling. I tried counselling with a local trauma counsellor but I felt that experience was somehow superficial. I was hoping to liaison with Maria, initially I didn’t want to burden her. Maria approached me reassuring me that she was there to support me as a friend.
Maria also counselled in her private facility apart from our workplace, I knew that if anyone would be able to help me to address my experience, not only with the trauma but also needing to address some personal issue’s, past and present, someone whom I could trust, she was the one. I fully trust Maria.
My intuition was right. What a wonderful gift she has been given in order to support those in need. I’m privileged to have met this wonderful woman and I sincerely hope that many others get to experience her warmth, insight and guidance.

I met Maria in May 2022 (she was recommended to me) . My beautiful 36yr old son had just completed suicide and I was not coping! Maria made me feel safe! My son was a very popular, amazing personable man and we were extremely close! He had many complex issues and had previous suicide attempts and attended rehab prior to his death! It was all extremely traumatic for me and I suffered a broken heart and also pts. I became unwell and lost 16kg ! I also worked through an abusive ex husband (death threats resulting in protective orders) caring for my legally blind daughter, 3 special needs grandchildren and both our homes flooded in oct resulting in temp accommodation and insurance issues. The grieving process has been extremely difficult, made worse by many complications!
Maria has been my constant! My person to hold my space with kindness, caring, compassion and] sound advice and strategies for my survival and also helped me re-enter a world I truely didn’t want to be a part of.
Maria has helped me navigate my broken world and get up each day to try! Without this amazing woman I honestly don’t know we’re I would be now!!! My life is a work in progress and I take comfort knowing she is in my corner! Thankyou, JENNY H

Clean date is the 26/4/2018.
I met Maria in September 2019 where I have been fortunate to work alongside her in the AOD field. She has been one of my greatest mentors and a person I look up to for guidance and support. She has taught me resilience and the courage to believe in myself. I have seen first hand the difference she makes in those that she works with and the people she supports in recovery of addiction and trauma.
My life and career/recovery would not be as successful as it is, if it wasn’t for her commitment to me, guiding me to make positive change and the knowledge to do so.
